Description

The Renee Powell Education Grants will be awarded through the LPGA Foundation and the LPGA Renee Powell Fund. Established in 2022, the Renee Powell Education Grants will provide financial aid to female, African American, LPGA Professionals going through the LPGA certification process. For over 60 years, the LPGA has developed and enhanced golf education for teachers, coaches, and leaders of the game of golf. The LPGA Teacher Education Program has become the most comprehensive and dynamic golf education series in the industry. 

Through this initiative the LPGA Foundation and LPGA Professionals will further their commitment to Changing the Face of Golf and increasing opportunities for African American women to pursue careers in the golf industry.

Awarding the Renee Powell Education Grants

Grants will be awarded on a trimester basis to assist with the costs of attending LPGA Certification Programs. Below are examples of expenses the Renee Powell Education Grant would cover:

  • LPGA Professionals membership application fee
  • Level 1 registration fee
  • Level 2 registration fee
  • Level 2 video class registration fee
  • Level 3 registration fee
  • Level 3 travel stipend (approx. $800)

The amount awarded is at the sole discretion of the LPGA Foundation based on the information provided in the application. Applicants may only apply for one level of the Teacher Education Program (TEP) at a time. Prospective recipients should only apply if they meet the criteria. Grants must be used within the year it is awarded. Exception, grants awarded in the 3rd selection may be used the following year. 

Note that the Renee Powell Education Grant is renewable every trimester if the applicant meets the minimum scoring requirement of the previous class. Applicants may only receive one LPGA Foundation grant per application period. 

Eligibility Criteria

Grant Applicants must be an Approved Applicant, LPGA Apprentice or Class B LPGA Professional member in good standing. You must be enrolled in the Applicant program to apply for this grant.

  • Applicants must be Black/African American females
  • Grant applicants must demonstrate financial need - the more information provided supporting financial need, the better.
  • Grant applicants must submit a completed application with reasons why they are requesting assistance by the designated deadline
  • An Approved Applicant who is approved for a grant may apply for the grant again in the future if they demonstrate financial need. To be eligible for a second grant, the Applicant must have joined as an LPGA Professionals Apprentice Member prior to applying for an additional grant.

Grant Selection

Eligible recipient applications will be reviewed by LPGA Professionals President and Vice President, LPGA Staff and LPGA Foundation Board Members.

Renee Powell is an American professional golfer who played on the US-based LPGA Tour and is currently head professional at her family’s Clearview Golf Club, the only course designed, built, owned and operated by an African American. The daughter of golf course entrepreneur Bill Powell, Renee grew up in Ohio and took up golf at an early age. As the second Black player on the LPGA Tour, Renee has dedicated her career to increasing diversity in golf. Renee is a true trailblazer and beloved global ambassador for golf.
