The Chevron Changing the Face of Golf Scholarship will be awarded through the LPGA Foundation as part of Chevron’s commitment through the LPGA Foundation Giving Circle. Established in 2022, Chevron will offer this scholarship opportunity for female high school seniors of minority background pursuing a full-time, STEM-focused course of study at an accredited college or university in the United States. Through this effort, the LPGA Foundation will further its commitment to Change the Face of Golf and increase opportunities for young women to obtain a college education. For this particular Scholarship process, Five (5) $2,500 scholarships will be awarded in the Spring of 2025 and will be available for renewal for four years of undergraduate studies ($10,000 total). This amounts to seven total scholarships presented by Chevron including the two Dinah Shore Chevron Scholarships. The application process will open in the Fall of 2024.
The Why
The goal of this initiative is two-fold:
- To increase representation of communities who have been traditionally underrepresented in golf and STEM.
- To preserve the legacy of Dinah Shore, an advocate for women’s golf and honorary member of the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame.
The How
The LPGA Foundation and Chevron are offering this Scholarship Program where five young women will be awarded $2,500 in the Spring of 2025 which will be available for renewal for four years of studies, totaling $10,000 in Scholarship funds per recipient. Qualifications to apply for the scholarship include being a high school senior at the time of application, strong academics, community service and letters of recommendations.
Eligibility Criteria
Be a high school senior at the time of application
Student must identify as Asian, Black or African-American, Hispanic/Latin-American, American Indian or Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander.
A minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA out of a 4.0 scale is needed to apply and must be maintained
Pursuit of a STEM-focused educational path
Committed to attending an accredited college or university in the United States
Demonstrate community service
APPLICATION CRITERIA
- Completed Scholarship Application form.
- Official High School Transcript ( through Spring semester of Junior Year). If you have your Fall Semester of Senior Year available, please include this version).
- An autobiographical essay written by the applicant must accompany each application, including the applicant’s background and career objectives, and describing how golf has been an integral part of her life. This letter should also include the applicant’s personal, academic, and professional goals, chosen discipline of study, and how this scholarship will be of assistance. (Please limit to no more than two pages).
- Three letters of recommendation from the following individuals are required and must accompany the completed application form:
- (a) High school coach or golf course/club junior golf program director, or instructor;
- (b) High school teacher, counselor or principal; and
- (c) Local community representative or business leader.
